ÖVP Finance Minister Magnus Brunner currently has the best chance of winning the post of EU Commissioner. An announcement is likely to be made soon, but the Green Party's approval is subject to conditions. What Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler and Co. are demanding in return for their approval and where the ÖVP already has a first partial success to celebrate in Brussels. 

At least during the day on Tuesday, there was still no white smoke to be seen above the black-occupied Chancellery. ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler have been negotiating for months over the appointment of the EU Commissioner.
