Why 6 EU member states voted against the draft law
20 member states voted in favor of the renaturation law in the EU Council. Belgium abstained from voting. Finland, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Sweden and the Netherlands voted against. The "Krone" took a look at why these countries did not support the draft law.
The EU renaturation law has been causing conflict and tension in the EU countries for months. It has now been approved by the European Parliament and recently also by the Council of the EU. The necessary approvals from 15 member states, representing 65 percent of the EU population, were only narrowly achieved. The decision was close because the MEPs in the EU Parliament are allocated according to the population of the individual countries and therefore not every country has the same number of votes.
