“I didn’t eat anything anymore, just drank”
What does years of alcohol abuse do to a person? And how do you manage to put an end to it? Wolfgang Möslacher was addicted to alcohol for decades - and now lives an abstinent life.
It's been 48 years since Wolfgang Möslacher drank his first beer. "Egg beer. Beer with two raw eggs and sugar whisked together." He was just nine years old at the time. "That's what the little ones were given to keep them quiet," he recalls, and you can tell it's a painful memory.
A lot has happened since then: more and more alcohol, the first "movie break" at 14, later prison, homelessness, in between attempts to stop drinking. Friends have died, and 20 years ago his own father. "He was also an alcoholic," says Wolfi, who himself drank for decades. He stopped on August 26, 2004.
