Styria: Nursing bed shortage continues to worsen

Three public nursing homes in the north of Styria are threatened with radical cuts. Bed reductions are planned and one facility is to disappear from the scene completely. Management errors on the part of the responsible care association are at issue.

Patrick Killmaier describes the loss of "every single care bed" in the region as a "catastrophe". As head of the Mariazell health center, he is familiar with the plight of the largely elderly residents: "When I recommend residential care for a patient, they are first put on a waiting list. And it's a long one."
