AK boss Renate Anderl is currently the only red woman to have just won a successful election and was confirmed in office. How she made it to the top as the daughter of a janitor and why she is not thinking of retiring at 61.

Somewhere in the depths of the ORF archives there must still be an ancient film reel from 1968 or '69. In black and white: the first May Day march of the future AK president. Back then as a toddler on her dad's shoulders. As a caretaker in a municipal building in Vienna-Favoriten, he was a member of the SPÖ and the trade union "and very, very proud that we were both even on TV," recalls Renate Anderl (61) in an interview with Krone.
