For upcoming elections
How the NEOS now want to gain political momentum
Similar to the ÖVP, the first two elections in this year's super election did not go very well for the NEOS. The pink party was kicked out of the local council in Innsbruck and in Salzburg City it lost a third of its voters and now only holds one mandate. In 2023, the NEOS missed out on re-entering the Salzburg state parliament. The Krone has investigated why the Liberals are not nervous about the upcoming EU and National Council elections.
Basically, the causes and starting position for the election defeats of the NEOS are different to those of the People's Party. In Innsbruck, the party strategists do not see any faults in their own party. The poor result was due to the fact that the election in the Tyrolean capital came down to the question of the mayor between incumbent Georg Willi of the Greens, ÖVP rebel Johannes Anzengruber and FPÖ candidate Markus Lassenberger. Several insiders believe that the Pinks simply could not get through in this mixed situation.
