If you want to be sure that after your death, everything actually goes to the heirs you intended to benefit, you should draw up a will in good time. But not every supposed will is actually valid! A will is quite practical: With a will, you can deviate from the statutory order of succession—in favor of people who are dear to you but who would not be heirs without a will. Or you can assign specific parts of the estate to specific heirs. “But there are formal requirements for a will that must be observed,” say Vienna-based attorneys Vincent Schneider and Wendelin Moritz.
