In this country, the estate is settled through “judicial probate proceedings,” according to inheritance law experts Vincent Schneider and Wendelin Moritz. Around 80,000 such proceedings are conducted annually in Austria. So, as a surviving relative, you can’t just take whatever you want from the inheritance.
