His election was a sensation: For the past six months, former provincial councillor Siegfried Schrittwieser has been the Styrian Red Cross President. He wants to achieve a salary package next year - and is concerned about the loss of volunteers: "Night shifts are becoming increasingly difficult to fill." What does this mean for patients?

Siegfried Schrittwieser drives from Thörl to Graz almost every day. Just like he used to when he was still an active provincial politician. "It wouldn't be possible without the support of my wife. I am infinitely grateful to her for once again supporting such a far-reaching decision," he says.
