"Climate Shakira"
Activist: “Billions of people will die”
Anja Windl - also known as "Climate Shakira" - is probably the best-known climate activist. The German has lived in Klagenfurt since 2017. The protests are now over, but she still has to go to prison. What she demands for Carinthia.
(Almost) everyone in Austria is pleased that the climate stickers took themselves out of circulation in January by blocking roads with sticky activists. Traffic was at a standstill during the actions of the well-known "Last Generation" group.
The activists wanted to use their stickers to call on the government to phase out the use of fossil fuels and rely on renewable energies to keep global warming below two degrees, as stipulated in the Paris Climate Agreement. It has just been announced that US President-elect Donald Trump wants to withdraw from the climate agreement. The rise in global temperature is expected to be at least 2.9 degrees. High time to act. Or is it?
Probably the best-known face of the climate change campaigners lives in Klagenfurt. This is Anja Windl, who is known everywhere as "Climate Shakira". The reason: the 27-year-old has similarly long hair and is just as attractive as the real Shakira. "I come from Lower Bavaria, but moved to Klagenfurt in 2017 to study psychology," says the young woman over a coffee in the popular "Hafenstadt" restaurant.
