Eritrean pro Biniam Girmay triggered cycling hysteria in his country with the green jersey. The Tour stages were broadcast live in sold-out cinemas. The 2025 World Cycling Championships in Rwanda are now set to spark cycling enthusiasm throughout Africa.

Biniam Girmay is ensuring that Africa is more than ever in the spotlight of cycling. The Eritrean pro is not only the first dark-skinned African to win a stage at the Tour de France. The 24-year-old is also the first African professional cyclist to win a classification jersey in green at the Tour of France.
