The whole of Austria is now looking to St. Pölten because the regional court there is demanding clarification on six points from the Court of Justice of the European Union. The EU's Electricity Grid Directive is the main focus here. According to lawyer Forsthuber, this also has a suspensive effect on all other smart meter proceedings.

The interpretation of the EU's "Internal Electricity Market Directive" - and how it is implemented even more strictly in Austria - is a constant source of discussion. This is particularly evident in the forced changeover to digital smart meters, which are to replace the analog Ferraris meters, as the "Krone" reported last year.
