Hopefully you’re already well-practiced at towel-throwing? Because the sun lounger warriors are now in full swing! Early in the morning at hotel pools in vacation destinations, they’re already in the starting blocks. “Typically German”? Not at all: rather, this is where the (terry cloth) beast in all of us awakens. Why are we actually like this?

We’ve known that ever since Douglas Adams’ novel *The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy* (1979). But the towel is also very popular with vacationers here on Earth.
Sure, for drying off, but above all as a secret weapon at the hotel pool: Because lounge chairs have to be reserved—whether you use them or not.At least that seems to be an unwritten vacation law, if you watch the videos on social media—year after year.
