Leitkultur – what will be left of us?
The controversy over the newly proclaimed "Leitkultur" is running high. Perhaps we should broaden our perspective a little - both in terms of time and space. This is what natural scientist and author Christian Mähr recommends.
It won't help the heated nature of the current dispute. Because a little reflection will only bring one thing: a significant cooling down. "Leitkultur" is reminiscent of "Leithorizont", a term used in palaeontology and archaeology: a layer in the ground where characteristic remnants of a particular epoch can be found. Microscopically small calcareous shells in one case, specially shaped vestments in another. The limestone shells are millions of years old, the vestments 2000 or so.
What will be found in 2000 years' time? What does the "early 21st century" horizon contain, what could be unearthed by the archaeologists of this distant future (more likely by autonomous archaeological robots called archi-bots)?
