The ÖVP has been part of the federal government without interruption for 37 years. If current polls are to be believed, this could change after the National Council elections. Behind the scenes, however, the federal and state lists are already being drawn up to set the course for the period after the election. In Lower Austria and Upper Austria, the top positions are said to have already been allocated. 

Even before the recent summer break, the head of Lower Austria is said to have informed her companion Wolfgang Sobotka that he will no longer be allowed to run for the coveted first place on the blue-yellow state list. The result was a ministerial duel between Klaudia Tanner and Gerhard Karner for first place. Now it has been decided.
