An internet search on "How to negotiate properly" leads to tens of thousands of tips from experienced negotiators in a matter of seconds. Nevertheless, it is striking how much parties disregard a lot of professional advice in their negotiations.

1) A basic rule of negotiation is not to create an enemy image. You form a coalition with people who think differently and not with arch or class enemies. The talks between the ÖVP and SPÖ also failed because the ÖVP economic wing and the "Bablerlager" in the SPÖ hold each other in such low esteem as if they were in February 1934 shooting at each other with machine guns.
