How the fire department and ice master save the eleven-city tour

The firefighters at Weißensee have their hands full. Using chainsaws, they are saving the ice surface from flooding and thus also the Eleven Cities Tour, which is currently taking place and brings millions of euros to the region every year. 

The masses of rain over the past few days flood Lake Weissensee and cause enormous damage to the surface of the ice - if the right measures are not taken," says ice master Norbert Jank, speaking from experience: "Unfortunately, we've had this situation before. Puddles of water formed on the ice to form veritable small lakes, which pushed the ice down and subsequently destroyed it."
