Millions of Windows computers at risk of “security fiasco”
The new year brings with it numerous innovations and changes - including for hundreds of millions of Windows users worldwide. This is because in the fall, Microsoft will discontinue support for Windows 10, which is now outdated but still popular. Experts warn of an impending "security fiasco".

Security fiasco looms for millions of Windows users
According to the latest figures from Statcounter, Windows 11 was only installed on 34.12% of all Windows computers worldwide in December 2024, while its almost ten-year-old predecessor was still installed on 62.7% (see chart below).
With an estimated 1.5 billion Windows PCs worldwide, this means that roughly one billion of them are at risk of a "security fiasco" this fall.
