Math, German and protection from sexual abuse

Father abuses daughter, grandfather rapes granddaughter: sexualized violence against girls and boys is on the rise in Austria - even among their peers. In southern Burgenland, primary school pupils therefore not only learn arithmetic, writing and reading, but also how to ward off such assaults at an early stage.

Probably the greatest power that adults have is an emotional one. Especially at a young age, children are dependent on the protection of parents and close caregivers. This makes it all the more traumatic for girls and boys when this neediness and trust are abused, resulting in verbal, psychological, physical and sexual violence.
