Haven't been happy in your marriage for a long time and separation is inevitable? By now at the latest, you need to know how a divorce works and what it takes. Depending on the type of proceedings, it can take a long time - and cost different amounts. Divorce expert Maria Christina Kolar-Syrmas explains.

As far as the duration and costs of the divorce are concerned, a basic distinction must be made between fault divorce (§ 49 EheG), divorce by mutual consent (§ 55a EheG) and divorce as a result of the domestic partnership having been dissolved for three or six years (§ 55 EheG).

"Many clients believe that there is no such thing as divorce due to fault in Austria anymore", says lawyer Maria Christina Kolar-Syrmas, "in fact this is not the case."
