Well-intentioned and badly done: a picture of the perfect world published by Kensington Palace was intended to provide reassurance and achieved exactly the opposite. The PR shot backfired completely. Why has the royal press work been so sloppy recently? A PR expert on the "Kategate".

It all began with an abdominal operation that was planned but came as a huge surprise to the public. On January 16, Princess Kate (42) was admitted to hospital in London, where she was treated for 13 nights. Kensington Palace did not say what the operation was, only that it was not cancer and that she would not be attending public appointments again until after Easter.
