Extreme construction botch-up
Extreme construction error to blame for hospital closure
For the AUVA, there is at least one positive side to the conflict surrounding the Lorenz Böhler Hospital: Nobody is talking about the hidden construction scandal behind the hospital closure. However, this is likely to change soon, as the AUVA is missing out on hundreds of millions of euros as a result.
The Böhler workforce could also be counted on in the event of a fire: The construction report calculates that the bed tower could be evacuated in less than 22 minutes (see excerpt below). But even that would be seven minutes too long, as details in the fire report on the Vienna hospital reveal the extent of the construction botch-up during the conversion and expansion in the 1990s. And this is responsible for the fact that the hospital would only have 15 minutes, or even less, in the event of an emergency.
