Lynx threatened with extinction for a second time

Progressive habitat loss and illegal persecution are putting the lynx in Austria under severe pressure. To make matters worse, there are now new reasons for the few remaining specimens in Styria and Upper Austria. Rescue operations are becoming scarce.

An untouched natural paradise as the backdrop for an animal tragedy: After a lynx reintroduction project in the adjacent Gesäuse (Styria) and Kalkalpen (Upper Austria) national parks was initially successful a good ten years ago, the situation of the rare species has recently deteriorated dramatically again.
