Zell am See fears traffic chaos due to the Schmitt Tunnel being closed for over two months. What can be done about it? The "Krone" newspaper has already mentioned some initial ideas from the locals. For example: more boat trips.

The traffic jam is coming - the people of Zell know this at the latest after the "Krone" report on the planned two-month full closure of the Schmitt Tunnel. Cracks and cavities have been found and the tunnel needs to be completely renovated.

But without the bypass, car and truck traffic between Maishofen and Bruck will have to be split between two roads: via the Loferer or Brucker Bundesstraße through the narrow town center or via the Thumersbacher Landesstraße and Seeuferstraße through the district of Thumersbach on the other side of Lake Zell. The latter is already a bottleneck - with a railroad crossing and hospital access road.
