Will smoking pot soon be allowed in Austria too?

In Germany, the possession and consumption of cannabis in small quantities is legal for adults as of today, April 1. This is something that powerful lobbies in Austria are also repeatedly calling for. However, experts warn of the gateway to addiction and the enormous danger after just one joint: "It's like playing Russian roulette."

In Germany, almost nine percent of all adults between the ages of 18 and 64 used cannabis at least once within twelve months before it was legalized. In Austria, the figures are similarly high: as many as 40 percent of 15 to 24-year-olds in this country have tried it at least once. Consumers and powerful lobbies are therefore repeatedly calling for the drug to be decriminalized in Austria too.
