The Styrian State Councillor for Education is examining the legal possibilities of banning cell phones in class. This is reigniting a debate that is not new. How should the proposal be assessed from an educational perspective? The "Krone" asked experts.

It is undisputed that smartphones in the classroom are currently more of a disruptive factor and cause of problems than a useful learning tool - especially for the youngest pupils. However, opinions differ on the question of how to deal with this.
