Neos against the Greens
Which three-party coalition would be more likely
The traffic light government in Germany, consisting of SPD, FDP and Greens, is sinking into chaos. Nevertheless, Green Party leader Sigi Maurer has signaled her willingness to tackle a three-party coalition in Austria, which is difficult to implement in realpolitik terms. Following the recent rapprochement between the ÖVP and SPÖ and in view of the poor poll ratings, the two former major parties will have to look for a junior partner. At least for the time being, there seems to be a preference.
It can be seen as a small charm offensive that the Green party leader Sigi Maurer let it slip in a talk with Rainer Nowak shortly before the Green federal congress that she could imagine a coalition with the ÖVP and SPÖ. But is the participation of the Greens likely or do the NEOS have the better cards to assert their constantly formulated claim to shape federal politics? The "Krone" asked around.
