Communists in Austria: Off to the last stand
The communists are on the loose in Austria: Graz with the dark red mayor Elke Kahr, on Sunday, March 10 Salzburg votes: a KPÖ city leader in the Salzach metropolis? Marx and Mozart? An analysis of the "unholy experiment".
On this gray and rainy November 12, 1918, the icy wind sweeps across Vienna's Ringstrasse. It is the historic hour of the revolution. The centuries-old Habsburg Empire is sinking into history. Workers wave a banner: "Hail the socialist republic".
Some break away from the crowd and climb onto the parapet in front of the parliament. They tear down the red-white-red flag, cut out the white stripe and hoist the red banner. Nine days after their founding in Favoriten, the communists openly show their brutal intentions with this spectacular action.
