The city of Vienna likes to boast that it is a "green and climate-friendly city". With the help of a funding pot, Vienna's streets are to be made greener to the tune of hundreds of millions by 2025. However, a data analysis shows that almost 50 percent of Vienna's streets are completely treeless.

Vienna's city government likes to proudly present the city's advantages. In 2020, it particularly emphasized the remarkable proportion of green space of around 53 percent of the total area and confidently described Vienna as the "greenest city in the world".
