Why Hitler is still an honorary citizen in some places

It will be 80 years since the end of the Second World War next year, but the atrocities of National Socialism remain a terrible memory. It is all the more curious that, according to old documents, Adolf Hitler still holds honorary citizenship in several communities in Austria.

Numerous historians have been studying Austria's role in the Second World War for decades, and much of what happened has since been reappraised. After the Anschluss to the German Reich (and in some cases before), squares and streets in Austria were named after the then "Führer" Adolf Hitler, and Hitler was also given honorary citizenship in dozens of municipalities and towns - in some of which he has still not been stripped of it ...
