What are the penalties for murdering teenagers?

Two homeless people were murdered in cold blood by then 16-year-old Thomas A. - another woman who was attacked barely survived. The young Viennese now has to face a jury and a charge of double murder. While adults face life imprisonment for this, the sentences for juveniles are much more lenient.

"Everyone is equal before the law" - but this is only partly true in Austria. "There are differences in age," says lawyer Sascha Flatz. Because there is a clear distinction in the penalties. Between the ages of 14 and 18, you are considered a juvenile and are sentenced under juvenile criminal law. And this is still partially applied until the age of 21.
