Why touchscreens are now going out of fashion again

For years, touchscreens and touch surfaces have been penetrating more and more areas of technology, with industry experts even predicting cell phones without any buttons or connections. Even in cars, many manufacturers are doing away with physical buttons and prefer to use large touchscreens for operation. But now a turning point is emerging.

The move away from physical buttons is not limited to cell phones, where the keypad has been replaced by the touchscreen. We are also increasingly pressing touch surfaces on kitchen appliances, and consumer electronics from Bluetooth boxes to Blu-ray players are also increasingly dispensing with traditional controls. Now, however, the very company that initiated the touchscreen boom is making a U-turn.
