Ski jumping in Vienna?
“We are looking for a ski jump”
Older Krone readers will still remember: Ski jumping was practiced in Vienna until the late 1970s. Up to 20,000 visitors marveled at jumps of up to 65 meters. Many years later, the Viennese city eagles fought for the construction of a ski jumping facility. The city has pledged its support, which legend Andi Goldberger also called for at the "WienAIR" in Upper Austria with over 100 talents - watch the video above!
Deep squat, jump off in time, put on the ski tips, make a V and land with a telemark - a thousand thoughts go through nine-year-old Paul from Simmering's head within a few seconds. A mental and physical feat. Concentration must not waver, otherwise there will be bruises. At best. "It doesn't hurt that much," Flora tries to reassure me before my first jump.
What is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me means the world to the kids of the Wiener Stadtadler. A world, however, in which they have to live at a huge disadvantage compared to their compatriots in western Austria. After all, the kids had to travel an hour and a half by car from Vienna to Mürzzuschlag. Time taken away from training. Time that is simply not available during a school week.
