Fiber optic cables for fast and secure data transmission should soon be available in every village. Expansion is progressing in Austria. But right on the doorstep of many people's homes, of all places, things are stalling - especially in cities, as the example of Innsbruck shows.

Data is transmitted at the speed of light via fiber optic cables. The technology is considered the most future-proof method for rapid data transfer. A great thing for companies and private individuals. Well over half of Austrians have access to a fiber optic connection, at least in theory. According to OECD data, however, less than 10 percent use it. One reason for this is that development is stalling in conurbations of all places.
