Tourism vs. environmental protection: a balancing act

The proposals of some state government officials to improve the water quality of Lake Wörthersee are causing tourism professionals to shake their heads. And while the fronts between hoteliers and environmentalists are hardening, the question arises as to where the journey should take us.

Carinthia can be proud of two things: Its flourishing tourism industry, which brings in millions every year, and its unique landscape. However, according to the 23-page report "Protection and utilization concept for Lake Wörthersee", these two are at loggerheads(we reported).
