Conquering the Grossglockner with a “new” lung

Bernhard Kaut has done it! He has climbed the Großglockner: "An indescribable feeling. I felt a lot of humility and gratitude." What is already a great achievement in itself is all the more outstanding when you know the life story of the 47-year-old Lower Austrian.

The man from St. Andrä-Wördern in the district of Tulln achieved the summit victory after a lung transplant. A look back at 2021: the father of four was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis as a result of a severe Covid infection, which took a particularly bad course for Kaut. A lung transplant was his only chance.
