Power plant construction on the Mur: conservationists rage

Styrian conservationists wanted to build a new spawning ground for the critically endangered Huchen near the Rötschbach in Stübing. However, Verbund, as the landowner, did not let them pass. The energy giant has completely different plans for this location. 

Without the support of environmentalists, the Huchen in Styria would probably have disappeared from the scene completely. "The fish stocks in our rivers, especially in the Mur, are in dire straits," says Franz Keppel. "Gravel banks are disappearing and with them the natural habitat for many animal and plant species."
