It was the smell that alerted the neighbors to the death after more than a month. No one had apparently missed the woman in her mid-forties for weeks - unfortunately not an isolated case. The "Krone" knows how it can happen that even younger people are so lonely that nobody notices their death.

A foul, strange smell in the stairwell, a full letterbox, a car that hasn't moved for a long time, curtains or blinds closed, and you haven't seen your neighbor for a long time - all these things indicate that someone may have died but nobody has noticed. Especially in apartment buildings, where people often don't even know their immediate neighbors personally, these clues can go unnoticed for a long time.
