Weapons ban zone: from fines to prison

Brawls and stabbings - the violence on Vienna's Reumannplatz has been increasing. On March 30, a weapons ban therefore came into force at the hotspot in the 10th district. Lawyer Sascha Flatz explains when fines and even prison sentences are threatened. 

The scenes that ultimately end up in Vienna's provincial court happen frighteningly often at Reumannplatz. Lawyer Sascha Flatz knows from his own experience: "There have been numerous physical altercations in the past, especially between young people who have attacked each other - even resulting in serious injuries." 

rThe weapons ban, which has been in place since the end of March, is intended to counteract this. Anyone carrying a folding knife, baton etc. in the prohibited zone risks a hefty administrative fine of several thousand euros. In extreme cases, even a prison sentence.
