Not just "Fallout"
Why the film industry is so hot for video games
Amazon has a new hot potato in the battle for streaming subscribers: the first series about the video game universe "Fallout", set after the nuclear apocalypse, not only delights proven fans of the games, but also earns good reviews. This is the second time in a short space of time that a post-apocalyptic video game story has managed to conquer home cinemas - just a few months ago, cineastes and video gamers alike were thrilled by the HBO series based on the PlayStation hit "The Last of Us". And "game movies" have not disappointed in the cinema either.
Considering the history of video game adaptations, this is not a matter of course: films and TV series based on popular computer games are not a new phenomenon. But they were rarely good in the early days of this discipline - just think of the legendarily bad "Super Mario" film from 1993.
