Graz residents are annoyed
Why the church cross is still not allowed to light up
Why is it taking so long? The tower cross of the church in Graz-Gösting has not been lit up for eight months. A local resident who had moved in found the Christian symbol "too bright". He complained - and the city of Graz pulled the plug. In the meantime, the anger among the residents is huge and they have already collected 230 signatures.
True to the motto "Vurschrift is Vurschrift", the officials of the Graz Building and Facilities Authority knew no mercy last year: after a single resident - who had moved to Graz-Gösting - felt disturbed by the luminosity of the church cross, the power was unceremoniously turned off. This was because the "structural measure" on the church had not been approved, the city of Graz decided after a strict review of the files. The "Krone" story caused outrage beyond the country's borders. Eight months have now passed - Christmas and Easter without the cross.
