At the scene
Passau becomes the new Amsterdam for Austrians
The legalization of cannabis in Germany has turned the border town of Passau into a Mecca for "stoners". Experts now fear the worst - especially that even more young people will become addicted to the drug in the future. With dramatic consequences. For themselves. And for others.
The area around Passau: meadows overgrown with daisies and marigolds, rolling hills, small forests. A postcard idyll, in other words. But it is precisely in this lovely landscape that things are happening that many residents of the city and the surrounding villages, the police and the CSU do not like at all.
And "cannabis social clubs" are springing up everywhere
Countless old farms, warehouses previously used by farmers and small company buildings have recently been converted into so-called cannabis social clubs. Clubs in which hashish is now grown and consumer products are made from the plants. So that they can soon be sold to their members.
