“Not-so-happy marriage often better than divorce”

Carinthian lawyers Margot Tonitz and Michael Rainer have been helping couples who want to get divorced at their law firm in Klagenfurt for decades - but often without thinking it through. In addition, there are typical clichés: from waiting until the children are out, to tricks of the still married couple, to financial ruin.

"Krone": Dr. Tonitz, you have handled many divorces during your time as a lawyer. When do divorces occur most frequently?
Dr. Margot Tonitz: First the Christ Child, then the divorce. Many people - mostly women - believe they still have to celebrate Christmas together because of the children. In most cases, however, Christmas together was just a farce and very stressful, not to say a disaster. So you just wait until you can finally contact the lawyer. Vacations are also often marriage killers, they are the final straw.
