Measles in Tyrol

No new cases, but the danger is not over yet

Since the beginning of the year, Tyrol has been experiencing the largest (and only) measles outbreak in five years. Further infections are expected due to the incubation period. The province is conducting contact tracing. What infected people and contact persons can expect and why the infectious disease keeps hitting Tyrol.

It has been five years since the last measles cases in Tyrol. According to state figures, 2019 was followed by measles-free years. However, cases have been increasing since January 2024. 79 people have been infected with the highly contagious virus, which manifests itself in a typical rash and flu-like symptoms.
