Sausage vendors want to become world cultural heritage

Vienna's sausage vendors have joined forces. UNESCO protection for "leiwande" stalls is just one of the goals of the new association. The "Krone" took a look behind the scenes of a sausage stand and found out exciting details about this unique profession. 

The sausage stand is as much a part of Vienna as coffee houses and wine taverns - and yet until now it has had no one to speak up for it. This is about to change, as the stallholders are now taking matters into their own hands.

"That's where people really come together"
The entire Viennese sausage stand aristocracy (see picture above) gathered for the "Krone" on Schwarzenbergplatz with the initiator of the idea, "sharp René" Kachlir, to show their colors: Nothing less than the recognition of the Viennese sausage stand as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is what they want to achieve together - and they have good reasons for doing so.
