Hans Peter Doskozil was elected Governor of Burgenland on February 28, 2019. From the outset, he endeavored to pursue an independent course. With the introduction of the minimum wage in the provincial civil service in January 2020, he clearly emphasized the "Burgenland way" for the first time. Resistance came not only from the opposition, but also from the trade union. "If people who work 40 hours are dependent on subsidies and one-off payments in order to be able to organize their lives, then something is wrong," says Doskozil. Many municipalities and other areas have now also followed suit when it comes to the minimum wage.
