Altaussee struggles for the “right” tourism

The local council in beautiful Altaussee is in a heated debate. In 2020, the ÖVP lost almost 30 percent of votes - mainly to a citizens' list with close ties to the Greens. Disputes were mainly about major projects.

The Viennese artists' society used to vacation here, today Hollywood stars relax on the shores of Lake Altaussee in the luxury spa hotel. Who can blame them? The scenery in Altaussee is second to none. But where nature attracts paying guests, the fear of selling out the homeland is not far away.
