Dutch inventors report miracle battery breakthrough

Electric cars with twice the range, more durable smartwatches, air cabs and super-thin smartphones: a new battery technology from the Netherlands is set to make it all possible. Research has been going on in the laboratory for some time, but a few days ago a "breakthrough" was claimed to have been achieved. Krone+ reveals how the Dutch miracle battery works.

The energy density of conventional lithium-ion batteries is in the region of 233 watt hours (Wh) per kilogram of battery - similar to high-capacity electric car batteries of the type 4680 from Tesla. With the new technology from Holland, almost twice as much should be possible: 390 watt hours per kilogram of battery weight. This is made possible by a new anode material.
