Budget crisis: strict austerity measures in Styria
Economy, work, science - and now also the finance department: Barbara Eibinger-Miedl has taken over a major department in the new provincial government. In an interview with "Krone", the new State Councillor for Finance explains how to get out of the budget crisis and where savings need to be made.
"Krone": The "Krone" report on the state government's cash shortfall has caused a stir: the budget deficit for 2024 has doubled to 900 million euros and the debt now stands at 6.4 billion euros. Were you surprised by these figures?
Barbara Eibinger-Miedl: It was actually foreseeable that the deficit would be larger, but I was personally surprised by the dimensions.
