A group of friends erected a summit cross on the Gumsenkogel in Upper Austria to surprise a fellow mountaineer on his 60th birthday. But vandals simply tore it down and disposed of it - a search is to be carried out this weekend. In an interview with "Krone", the man who put it up is angry and sad.

The "Krone" report on the disappearance of the summit cross on the Gumsenkogel in the Almtal valley, which was first noticed by a hiker, has triggered countless reactions. Now Helmut Köberl (71), who had erected the cross with fellow mountaineers, has also come forward.
